Multiple Vulnerabilities in Jenkins
Indian – Computer Emergency Response Team (https://www.cert-in.org.in)
Severity Rating: HIGH
Software Affected
Jenkins weekly versions 2.567 and prior
Jenkins LTS versions 2.555.2 and prior
Overview
Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Jenkins, which could allow an attacker to achieve remote code execution, impersonate users, conduct phishing attacks via open redirects, bypass security restrictions, disclose sensitive information, and perform cross-site scripting attacks on the targeted system.
Target Audience:
All end-user organizations and individuals using Jenkins.
Risk Assessment:
High risk of remote code execution, security restriction bypass, information disclosure, and cross-site scripting.
Impact Assessment:
Potential for remote code execution, security restriction bypass, information disclosure, and cross-site scripting.
Description
Jenkins is an open-source automation server that helps teams automatically build, test, and deploy software as part of a CI/CD pipeline.
Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Jenkins due to improper deserialization restrictions, insufficient input validation in URL redirection logic, missing permission checks in various HTTP endpoints, improper handling of user-supplied offline cause descriptions, and insecure processing of config.xml submissions containing secrets. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities to deserialize arbitrary objects, impersonate users, perform unauthorized actions, read sensitive files, conduct phishing attacks through open redirects, inject malicious scripts, access restricted information, cancel queue items without proper authorization, and expose plaintext secrets on the targeted system.
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to achieve remote code execution, impersonate users, conduct phishing attacks via open redirects, bypass security restrictions, disclose sensitive information, and perform cross-site scripting attacks on the targeted system.
Solution
